During the past ten years a wide variety of flooring products have entered the market that have been surefire hits: laminate tile, engineered flooring, vinyl tile planks. What these products have done is to put flooring into the hands of the do-it-yourselfer.
Let's face it, except for putting doen self-adhesive, vinyl tiles you use to need a flooring professional to do your floor. Then a 'floating floor" called Pergo, a Swedish company, came out with instructions on how you could glue your own floor together. And it looked like real hardwood. Pergo soon attracted hundreds of imitators and then the "click" floor arrived putting flooring into the hands of the amateur forever.
However, the laminate tile floors looked and felt fake. But tiling is not for the faint-hearted. It takes practice and speed because the mastic sets in 15 minutes.
Now, a company called Snapstone has invented a snap together tile with a self-leveling base. It is real ceramic tile attached to a plastic tray and finished on the bottom with a self-leveling rubber base. The plastic tray has the plastic snaps. There's no mastic mess and the tiles can be unsnapped and moved if you don't like the positioning.
And once it's down the tile can be grouted like real tile so it looks and feels real.
