My fireplace is butt ugly featuring sad looking bricks with brass doors that no longer function. It has a functioning gas line and I would like to convert this wood/gas fireplace into a gas fireplace only. I was looking at inserts however I simply do not understand all the different venting possibilities. Besides improving it's appearance I do want the fireplace to safely provide heat for a room that is roughly 400 square feet. I am looking for an economical solution as opposed to looking at the cost of a new car to make this fireplace functional and attractive. My second question is do I need to consult with only those companies that specialize in fireplace installations or are there other contractors capable of doing this type of work.
