Recycled Pallets

Many household items come in pallets or, as in the case of many appliances, just foot pallets. These pallets are usually made from 1" X 6" X 3' (sometimes 1" X 4" X 4') strapping and may be various types of wood. For example, I bought a wood stove made in Washington state and the pallet was made of clear cedar!

The main thing is that you don't want to throw this into a landfill because it is a waste of resources.

1. Storage Platform: Place in the garage or basement to store heavy items or boxes that you don't want touching the cement floor.

2. Spare Wood: Take the pallets apart and you'll have a dozen pieces of useful and stackable wood for small building projects. If nothing else give it to handy person in your neighborhood for his or her projects.

3. Pallet Company: Call a pallet company and, chances are, when they have a truck in your area they will pick it up and reuse it.

The main point here is: Don't waste wood!
