If there is anything that makes a homeowner cringe it's showing a guest to an outdated bathroom. Not only is the appearance tired and dated, the surfaces, although clean, may not look so.
If the bathtub is the old design with a shower-tub this can be re-coated with an epoxy compound from the local home supply store. The coating comes in a wide variety of colors.
Then, try a new tub-surround. They are generally under $100 and can be glued on over a clean surface. With a re-coated tub this area will look bright and clean and will not have the ugly mildew stains in the corners.
Changing hardware is a quick and easy (and cheap) way to renew your bathroom. Many home stores will have hardware on sale in bins. Just get some matching ones in the finish you want.
Towels, a shower curtain and a window curtain that match will also add a new dimension. A matching bathmat and toilet seat cover will also work.
And last, change the light fixture. This is also an inexpensive item.
My bathroom walls have outdated wallpaper. I'm trying to find ideas to modernize my bathroom. I am sure your suggestions will help me accomplish the new look I want. I've already started painting my walls. Just a dash of color in neutral tones can go a long way. I want to replace my rug with colorful tiles to enhance my bathroom and give it an eye-catching accent.
To Jaye x--Colorful tiles on a bathroom floor is an excellent idea, along with a custom base to blend in the walls with your new tile floor...just a suggestion..
Please be very careful Jaye X if you plan to add a new rug on top of a tiled floor. You'll need to get the non-slip pads to hold it down securely, especially in a bathroom or kitchen where it's easy for someone to slip.
