Making Slip Covers

I am ready to experiment with custom slip covers. I bought a couple of books, already have a hearty sewing machine. I just need to get going.

The hurdle I face right now, is how to purchase muslin for pattern piece construction. Is it better to just buy a full bolt of muslin, for piece of mind and a generous supply?

A friend told me that she only buys enough for each project, but she has more experience than I do. Should I buy muslin by the bolt?

If you are confident of seeing the project through, buy a quarter more than you need. Just to cover the emergencies. If you don't need it eventually, its not too much of a waste is it!

The one plus with buying a bolt is you can be sure of a perfect color match. If you have to go buy more at a later date, even in the same store, you run the risk of it being different slightly in color. I'd say buy the bolt but only if it wasn't too expensive and you wouldn't have far too much left over.

Isn't a bolt of fabric huge though?
