recoupment of deposit

hello,
i paid $3800 to a contractor for installation of new flooring. i received notice that the contractor passed away, and i need to recoup my deposit so i can hire a new contractor to complete this work. how do i go about this in the state of virginia?
please help!

get whatever paperwork you have and contact your city / state to see what your next options are. But first I recomend showing this to whom ever is responsible for the deceased estate.
