Hi!
I just hired a reputable brick pointer who finished up day two of repointing the first story of my home. Could I please get some opinions on the work he and his crew have done so far? I think it looks sloppy, but he insists that it's going to clean up nicely and that I'll be getting as good a job as possible. Still, I remain skeptical and need some reassurance that this can clean up and be a relatively neat and presentable job when it's completed.
The home was built in 1923 and has never been repointed. The old mortar is sandy and loose, and it appears as though the joints have spread. According to my brick pointer, these were 1/2" joints that have spread to nearly 3/4", making this a challenging job. Also, that type of brick used (vertical score) makes it even more challenging. So will muriatic acid along with other cleaning methods make this look neat and presentable? Or should I be concerned that this guy is going to turn my home into an eyesore?
