Short version is that the finish work quality/outcome was horrible. Look at the pictures and decide for yourself.
All interaction other than initial project details and scheduling was with Wesley. In the end Wesley claimed nothing he promised was legal because he was not the owner. Make no mistake , Wesley is the owner in every way except on paper. Everything we wanted including materials and images of what we wanted were documented and sent to the owner (his wife) and Wesley before we started. We originally had two $800 doors in the project which were removed from the project and in exchange there were a few minor changes like adding one outlet and changing from 2x4 to 2x2 ceiling tiles. Nothing too extreme. Wesley agreed to all of this but since I asked for partial refund, Wesley now claims these are extras and upgrades even though in the end I not only paid 10% more than the original contract price but I also purchased materials outright. This was in addition to loosing the $1,600 in material costs for the doors.
Wesley was very neat and diligent. He is a hard worker. The project did start out ok but it was clear there were communication issues from the start. The quality issues showed up later. I had him redo his work more than once because it was not done properly. The last day he brought in unskilled laborers to perform finish work in his rush to complete the project and move on to his next project. We called out things that had to be corrected. His outbursts and physical demeanor frightened my girlfriend to the point where I just paid him and had him leave. At that point I knew I would need to hire another contractor to finish. I figured I would cut my losses. The next day we discovered that most of his work had to be redone.
I did ask for a partial refund when two other contractors and a retired building inspector confirmed that about 50% of his work needs to be redone. It was also pointed out that some of his work does not meet code. I attempted to work with the owner but it was Wesley that responded with all kinds of verbal abuse and threats. I had to call the police and block his number because he blew up my phone with calls and texts.
