Me and my wife hired Mr. Kelvin Brown after sitting with him for a frew estimate. The way he talked up his service and promises made, we were certain this would be a quick, easy job, 2 days max.
From the start it was BS, first day he arrived late, but we didnt say anything being that CLT traffic is now horrendous. Started removing faceplates for electrical switches and sockets, never covered furniture and began painting. Next day he arrived even later, but was sure to always leave on time. My wife started noticing the horrible work he was doing but we figured he would correct it before he was done. As the days go by, he just kept coming later and later and the work got worst and worst. A promise of 2 days max turned into 4 days and him forcing me to pay him the other half without completing a walk through.
He first started with why he needs me to pay him the other half and him being done. He claimed it was his wife's birthday and he needs the money. Then he claims he has no time to come for a walk through so we can just look then wire him the money. After finally realizing that my wife and I might be young, but we're not no push over or fools to just give him all this money without making sure the work is complete, he left and said to call him in the evening and to come meet him over by University where he lives. Kelvin Brown DID NOT COMPLETE THE JOB, window sills were left unpainted, baseboards were worst off after he left than before he even arrived to do an estimate, brand new furniture had paint on them, these people were so horrible that they painted around tape, clothes out of their way had paint on them, paint on the carpet, on hard wood floor, all types of first dirt and debris mixed in with the paint on the wall, blothes everywhere, paint runs everywhere, and a lot of spots completely missing paint. We ran the license number he placed on his contract and even that is fake. Luckily, we were able to use the wording of his contract to push him off from trying to get the other half of payment. He even got violent via the phone.
We've since hired a lawyer and got with law enforcement and have moved fwd with the next step in how to handle this situation. KELVIN BROWN IS A THIEF & SCAMMER WHO PREYS ON INDIVIDUALS THAT HE THINK HE CAN GET OVER ON!!!!!!!
Do not become his next victim, he will talk up a good game, but I won't even put him in charge of face painting at my 4 yr old birthday party.
Kelvin Brown of ASAP Enterprises Home Improvements is a sham. We hired him for a painting job and he also told us he does home improvements. He is not a home improvement contractor as he represented himself to be but a laborer who has grand ideas he sold my husband and I.
From the start Kelvin suggested what he could do with our bathrooms. He had grand ideas but didn’t have the experience to implement them. Truthfully he was a painter who may have done some personal home improvements for himself but did very poor work. There are pictures on his website that lead us to believe that he did that work but he didn’t because he is incapable of doing so. We made the mistake of paying the required deposit (1/2 down) and then Kevin spent TWO MONTHS attempting to remodel our bathrooms, all along telling us he’d be done in a few days. He pulled stunts like having us run around for materials, complete underestimation of materials, didn’t have things like buckets, extension cords, drill bits, painters tape and on and on. We kept having to have him go back and fix things, tiles not flush, touch up paint, repair a patch in the wall a few times that’s still not right, a counter top that hangs over the edge (which he never fixed). He would basically continue working and then we’d look at it that night and say this tile isn’t flush, etc, etc. He’d say yeah, I’ll fix it. Well if he saw it and he is the self-proclaimed “perfectionist” that he claims to be he would have fixed these things on his own before we pointed it out. It was like he wanted to see how much he could get away with.
He showed up between 11 and noon every day and worked until 4:30 or 5. It was fine with us at first but after being promised our bathroom would be done in a week, it took two months for him to “finish”. And by “finish” I mean the tiles have chips in them, they have missing grout, the tiles aren’t flush, the walls are built out too far, the shower door is ½ inch off from the wall from one side to the other. The master shower is not usable since we do not trust what is under it and we have start over. All along the way Kelvin told us “I got you”. Well guess what, he did get us. Contractors that have come in are horrified at the job and actually tell us they’re sorry we had this happen. We trusted someone that is completely untrustworthy and took advantage of us. The tough part is that you’re halfway through and can either back out with the project not done or continue on and make a list for him to fix and hope for the best. Most of the time he said he couldn’t fix things and blamed it on our walls not being straight so he couldn’t do things like make the tiles flush or have straight grout lines. The walls are all built out too far. The tiles on one wall are bowed; he said this was due to the fact the studs bowed out. Every other contractor said, yes, so you fix the wall and shim the studs to make everything straight. That is just one example. I could continue on and on. I went back to him and said shouldn’t we have an eggshell/satin in the bathrooms near the sink (he convinced us to use matte paint) and he said yes, probably. He should have said this from the start. He has potentially ruined our brand new floors since he didn't properly tarp or clean up after himself.
Kelvin snowed us. I feel a responsibility to let others know that Kelvin performs poor work and feeds you BS from the beginning on his true abilities. My husband contacted him twice and Kelvin said I'll make it right, then ceased communication. He couldn't even be man enough to contact us back after promising over and over "I got you". Yeah, you sure did Kelvin, you got us by taking advantage of us when trusted you and paid you when you asked because you were "short on money". I hope that we are
Despite their quote being higher than his craigslist add I hired ASAP Painting and Home Improvements due to the owner's (Kelvin Brown) confidence and double guarantee of his work. His website boasts about their quality workmanship and rating in Charlotte. He has an add on craigslist suggesting $399 for 5 standard sizeHe suggests the higher cost was due to the labor force he would bring (4 employees per his report). He promised he could do the job (3 bedroom, 2.5 baths, hallways, morning and great-room) in two days for $2350 including paint. I agreed to pay that price as I stated for reasons above. Mr. Brown arrived both days late about 45 minutes each time and left early each day. He became verbally aggressive when I questioned his work. He suggests he completed the upstairs hallway and three bedrooms. The bathrooms upstairs have not been touched. The downstairs half bathroom, great-room and morning room have not been started. Mr. Kelvin Brown sent me a text message on the third morning suggesting in length he would not return to finish the job and considered the job done due to my criticism of his job performance, and what appeared to be a rush job. This man provided a "double" guarantee and quit prior to completion of the job.He reports he is keeping my deposit of over $1500. This company provided poor, unsatisfactory, uncompleted work. He abandoned the work before completion and did not fulfill his contract. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY
Paint job was not done correctly. All work that was promised was not done. Left after securing all payment and I can't contact Kelvin Brown since.
