Painting the walls is the cheapest and quickest way to spruce up the look of your interior. There is nothing fresher-looking than a newly-painted wall.
But not that many people prepare the walls before painting and this can lead to discoloring or even flaking.
All surfaces pick up a film from everyday living. This was even worse when smoking indoors was common practice and there are those that still do. Thick tobacco residue can bleed through a light color.
Washing the walls with a 1/4 cup of TSP (trisodium phosphate) in a bucket of water will give the paint great grabbing power almost like a fresh coat of primer. It is inexpensive and one of the best and cheapest grease cutters there is.
As well, take a drywall compound and fill the holes and depressions. Then wipe with a damp cloth. Leave to dry for an hour and you are ready to paint. if the holes are bigger you may have to do 2 coats of compound or even apply a patch.
Attention to detail will promote a great-looking wall.
