This may work for you, it has for us. Check walls with a good 4' level to see if they are plumb [n a vertical or perpendicular line]-right where the cabinets will be installed. You may want to draw on the wall the exact box size's of the cabinets by using a regular pencil, just as you would see them on some design plans. Try not to pencil walls to heavy and dark since it could show up even after aping a coat of wall paint.

Were the walls plumb?

Can you use flat pieces veneer plywood's sized indifferent thickness?

If the answer is no [the walls are not plumb], then you could nail these plywood veneers by using very small brad or track nails to get the walls plumb in direct proportion to line up the wall cabinets.
