Kitchen remodeling makes the structural changes to the nerve center of the home but to add sparkle to the kitchen many homeowners choose accessories to both compliment and make useful additions to the space. Hanging rollers for bulk wax paper, paper towels and aluminum foil are available in stainless-steel, copper and brushed-brass. There are also matching shelving, dish drainers, magnetic knife racks, spice racks (for holding the containers while cooking) and bottle racks. However, these are add-ons that can be bought at many hardware and home furnishing stores. Hanging pot and utensil racks are still popular and give the kitchen a commercial restaurant feel. For adornment copper and bronze pots, spoons and cake molds are popular.
Built in accessories are also popular, especially the pot fillers. With this ingenious idea you can fill kitchen pots too large to fit in under the faucet in the kitchen sink. In addition you can fill as you go and not have to worry about racing back to the faucet to add a cup of water here and there as you need it.
For other add-ons that are both useful and portray the character of the kitchen there are scales with clear glass trays and stainless-steel bottoms, bamboo cutting boards large enough to cover most of the island, drawer inserts which accept spice bottles for easy handling, nutmeg shavers for adding a sparkle to amazing deserts and spice-growing racks for fresh ingredients to meals.
Countertop appliances are also getting more sophisticated: new expresso machines, mixmasters, juicers, blenders and bagel toasters.
So when the kitchen renovators leave you can jazz up any part of your small piece of heaven with smaller items that you can change out in a few years to remake the look.
Thanks for the tips. I've found that by buying new kitchen accessories, you can redo the entire look of your kitchen for much less money than actually redoing the kitchen. Plus, most of the accessories are actually functional and serve important purposes especially if you like to cook.
I have an older Victorian, and I found these beautiful accessories that are made to look like antiques. For example, I have a few jars for flour and sugar and such and they look like old apothecary jars.
I am so glad that I have come across your post Kim. My mom wanted our kitchen remodeled and I am sure that she will be very happy to read this. For the meantime, I will have to look for other stuffs that I could buy for the makeover.
Accessorizing a kitchen has no end. What also is important is to create the write 'ergonomic' atmosphere. For example, things we need quickly should be closer to hand. Also, I pay a great deal of attention to make my kicthen user friendly for everyone in the house. Because in my family everybody uses it. A tip I can share is 'Alphabetize your spices' so everyone knows where each one is. Label your jars. Along with the accessories, management is also vitally important isn't it.
Great topic. Accessorizing a kitchen is a fun way to express yourself and you don't have to restrict yourself to one particular style or design. You can choose from a variety of elements: traditional to contemporary. I like the 'eclectic' look in a kitchen, which creates a mix and match style. What I do is display some of my favorite works of art and handicrafts. This always compliments and adorns the kitchen surroundings.
