This is the age of green. What better place to start than one's kicthen. Let's share some ideas on how to make our kicthen more green. Here are some of my notes-
1. Started out with energy efficient appliances.
2. Have not installed a TV or a cell charger in my kitchen.
3. Reuse water from the dishwasher for other cleaning purposes outside.
4. I use sunlight to warm and light the place as much as possible during the day.
These are just some as I am starting out. I would love to hear your suggestions.
Let's see.....
1. Be sure to read the owner's manual for your dishwasher. It may have tips on adjusting settings to save water.
2. Instead of using a huge oven for meals that take a while to bake, like pot roasts, try using a slow cooker. It saves heating the whole oven for one hunk of meat.
3. Check the settings on your refrigerator. Many people keep the temperature much colder than it needs to be.
These are three that come to mind at this moment. I am sure I will think of more as I putter around in my kitchen!
Hmm,
1. use enough portion of washing liquid instead of access, you can tell if you wash for a long time.
2. do most job on manual way instead of using electronics like meet grinder.
3. always take care of utensils and wash them for the sake of health and longer use for them.
1) Wash dishes by hand by plugging the sink, the old fashion way, using less water than a dishwasher would.
2) Obviously buying organic fruits and veggies would make the cooking in your kitchen more green :)
3) If you're like me sometimes I use paper and plastic plates, cups, etc... get rid of these or use only out of necessity.
Don't forget about the lighting in your kitchen. That has the potential to waste alot of energy. Switch from any incandescent bulbs to CFLs.
If you want to go a step further you could replace your standard switches with dimmer. Just make sure you use dimmable CFLs if you are going to do both (the standard kind will not work properly on a dimmer).
