I have a sloping area that washes out my grass and the water runs down this area onto my sidewalk, causing large areas of water to freze in the winter and muddy areas in summer when it rains.
One contractor wants to install French drains and another said that these drains clog after a few areas and become less effective. This contractor recommends the area be regarded to stop the problem and any remaing runoff be diverted to a vacant area.
Which is the best solution? Do these drains become ineffective over several years?
