My "new" home has a double garage that has very few capable storage areas. In other words the previous owners stuck in an old bench and built some cubby holes out of plywood.
Last weekend I got tired of this and decided to do a large cleaning of the area. To ease with the overflow I went to the shed to put some things and found it in a terrible condition. So, I was determined to get this straightened up.
First, I straightened up the shed and got all the extra wood sorted by standing it on end so it was easily-accessible. Then I loaded all the garden things from the garage to the shed.
Next, I worked on one side of the garage, the furthest side away, and knocked down all the bad shelving. Then I filled the holes and did something I had never down before - I painted a garage wall. The color I chose was a mint green and it brought the whole garage to life - and it was only side wall.
Next, I went to the home store and bought 8 steel shelves. They were not that expensive - $50 - and because they come in pieces In could put half-shelves under the panels and full ones where the wall was bare. These are pretty flimsy by themselves but but strapping the wall I fastened them directly to the wood and they were solid.
In addition, I put half-shelves up on the wall leaving 3 1/2 feet below for the shop vacuum, small table saw and work-mate.
So, for $300 and a weekend's time I have most of my garage organized. Next I will tackle the front and replace the workbench.
