Still waiting for paver to correct the inadequate correction he made to a driveway made unsafe due to abrupt switch in contract terms: to remove and replace existing old asphalt :instead, he announced the driveway would be sturdier if he merely poured an additional layer on top of existing one. It sounded good, so I went along. I had no idea that the additional layer would raise the surface so much that it was not safe to park near the edge lest the left wheel went over and collapsed below, so steep that a car could not drive back up. It was risker with snow, when you could not see the edge. The result was a limiting of usable surface, two rows of cars crammed together away from the edge. Also, paver did not add the extra foot of width I asked for, calling the supporting curb the extra area. Having prepaid, I had no choice but to ask him to correct the gaping drop with a backfill. After 7 months he agreed, but did it on the cheap, filling the gap with gravel that dispersed under a wheel, since no retaining bar or stabilizing pavers were used. Paver never compensated me with the money he saved on the shortcut, and on the widening in terms of materials time and labor. His argument in court was that If I signed off on it, I was satisfied. Disingenuous, since I had no choice but to sign off before being able to check on the quality of work, as the asphalt was too soft and not to be walked on for days.
