Cannot agree more with a review of this company on Google Maps Review (https://goo.gl/maps/kUxGyjrqkPG2): "This company is a big rip-off company."
Similar to that reviewer's experience, on 01/13/'18 we called this company to fix a burst water pipe. The job was finished in about an hour (including calling Fire Department and waiting for them to check whether any fire hazard could be involved), and we received an invoice of $5,758.18, the breakdown of which is as following:
Diagnostic attempt $389.76
Drain down from the street $356.50
Gaining access to the leaking pipe $783.64
Installing main valve $876.50
Inspection $389.76
Replacinig partial 3/4" piping $1,342.76
Replacing other piping & an additional valve $942.76
Replacing a secondary valve on water heater $676.50
Total: $5,758.18
With the approval of our home insurance company, we did a comparative estimate for the exact emergency repair work done by Fairfax Plumbing. We hired Marines Plumbing to offer us a quote. This is a reputable 4½-star company boasting 291 customer reviews on Yelp.com. Their estimate came to just $691.92! When we showed the technician Fairfax Plumbing's invoice, he just shook his head and remarked in disbelief, "Almost nine times of our quote!"
When our insurance company initiated negotiation with Fairfax Plumbing, the owner of the business eventually reduced the invoice to $2487.27, with an excuse: "the technician forgot to give you the multiple job discount". But later he threatened us that if in 48 hours he didn't hear from us "my offer will be withdrawn" and the charge would be back to $5,758.18. (This is the only company we have ever heard of in our whole lifes that will tear its discount policy into pieces so whimsically.) As for the readjusted invoice, it's not until we protested that "it's unlawful for a contractor to do business without issuing an invoice (in our case, an adjusted invoice)", that they finally sent us a photo of their readjusted invoice, which reads, "This invoice is a continuous of invoice #8674.... The total new amount is $2487.27." It's still a secret how the so-called multiple job discount was applied in our case, if there is such a thing. Our numerous demands for them to send us a copy of the readjusted invoice itself, (not just a picture of it, and it should be an invoice with break-down charges for each job item, together with a copy of the cancelled old invoice) just fell on deaf ears.
This Fighting-back ordeal of ours lasted more than half a year long, from which we learned a costly lesson: spend some time to check on the contractors you're going to hire. If interested, please read our (Bob H.) recent review at yelp for an totally different experience of ours with an A/C company.
These so-called professionals are a bunch of con artist. NEVER take their word when they assess and diagnose your water problem without getting a second opinion. Any rating that this company receives more than one star I am convinced was provided by someone affiliated with the company.
I had a water leak at my property and the technician said he had to charge me $389 to "locate the leak" even though they already charged a $49 fee to come out. After he allegedly confirmed there was a leak, he proceeded to tell me it was a water-main break, which of course would cost $4500; he even proceeded to tell me :if we get a truck out there it could cost $7000." It was so obvious he was attempting to play off my fears and banking that the urgent need to eliminate the leaking problem would result in me making a rash decision. However, I had few other contractors lined up to also assess the problem even though I had already paid these charlatans the $389. Come to find out IT WAS NOT a water-main break, it was simply a leak behind the wall in the kitchen which cost $225 to repair and my insurance covered the dry wall removal. Had the technician conducted the simple task of turning off the water inside and checking the meter, he would have realized this was not a $4500 waterman repair. But of course in their greed and efforts to take advantage of a customer they did not even make the effort to make a proper and accurate diagnosis. When I requested that they refund a portion of their $389 assessment fee which was Incorrect, as I did not believe i should pay for an assessment that was WRONG, they only agreed to refunding 10% or applying the fee to a future job. When I first considered having them fix the repair, they refused to give me a price which was a clear indication that their plan was to apply the credit to an unreasonable over price repair job.
Every interaction with them was defending off their efforts to rip me off. They even had the audacity to say their assessment was really incorrect when they were willing to have me believe I had a problem that did not exist. To this date, they still had not refunded the small 10% of the $389 dollars they received. The only reason I am not taking them to court over this matter is because my insurance company is reimbursing me for the amount.
The final analysis is that they are 1) incompetent at their job and unable to assess a problem as it actually is or 2) they are completely dishonest and will tell the customer anything, taking advantage of his/her ignorance in order to bill him/her the greatest amount possible or a combination of the two. Either way, save your money and never let this company near your property...EVER!
