Review of Baird Foundation Repair. Work completed September 2020
Below is a copy of the email I sent asking for correction of the situation and an explanation for my complaint.
Email 19 June 2020, To: Baird Foundation Repair
Complaint: The product sold to us was represented as the product that would correct the slope on the right side of our home. The work has been completed and the slope is still there.
On 27 December 19 Baird representative visited our home in San Antonio Texas to examine our home for foundation problems and propose a solution for our sloping foundation. Our home slopes to one side (slanted) and we wanted to get that fixed. The representative walked the home with us, and we showed him our concerns and then he asked for a little time to check it out and put a proposal together. After a little time had passed, we sat down (him, my wife, and I) and he showed us three proposals that would address our concerns. We were confused about why his graph showed no piers inside the home and the other two estimates we had from other companies required piers on the inside. His answer was that his system was different from everyone else and that rarely are piers needed on the inside. I asked if he was saying that piers are not needed (inside) to fix our foundation and he said yes. He stated at some point that the slope will be corrected with Baird’s system. He spent a lot of time explaining to us how the system worked and how it was better than all others and it would solve all our foundation problems, not just the slope.
We didn’t doubt that the system was a great system; we believe that the product was not used properly - and that started with the representative. After three quarters or more of the piers installed, the foreman, mentioned briefly that they probably should have put piers inside. I was confused and did not know how to react or what to do with that information. The next day was the day before we would do the lift and the foreman really started talking about additional piers again, and about me considering additional piers soon, (I cannot expand much on the conversation with the foreman because I do not hear well sometimes, and I miss a word or two being said), I did not know how to react. The foreman briefed me on how the lift would take place the next day and on lift day I prayed my way through it as I didn’t want to mistreat someone (over a material thing) knowing that they are hoping for the best results for me. Any eye can see that the product did not deliver.
We are open to suggestions except paying the balance and accepting as-is.
End of email
The owner came to my home to discuss the situation. After a conversation about blame and the normal stuff, the owner offered to correct the foundation by adding twenty-plus piers inside the home and said he will charge me half price, which amounted to about 18k and we had already paid 32k in the beginning. I complained that the actions of his representative denied me selecting another option for half the cost. Other options I had would have cost me fifty-five percent less but because his representative stated several times that the slope can be corrected without inside piers, we selected their company.
So, we have 32k invested and needed to spend another 18k, or go shopping for someone else to take over the job, which was a non-starter because we would have two foundation companies to summon if any warranty work might be needed in the future and that did not look like a solution, so we paid the 18k and found a way to replace the flooring damaged from the foundation repair. The additional work improved the slope. We were extremely disappointed with the service and solution.
This is my review of Baird Foundation Repair.
Refused to give me a refund for a poorly done job. Hired them to level my concrete walkway three years ago. Continued to settle and crack during that time and they came out three times to do warranty work. At the end of the warranty the service manager came out and said oh well it’s out of warranty we can’t help you. That was after he admitted that it should not have been treated as a walkway but rather a foundation. Meanwhile I am out $1800 and I need to have the whole thing redone now. Learned my lesson. Next time I’ll get two bids on a project.
