HVAC Contractor License
Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Department issues two types of HVAC licenses:
Class A HVAC Contractor License
Licensee can work on any size HVAC equipment
Needs an endorsement for environmental air conditioning, commercial refrigeration and process cooling and heating
Needs $300,000 per occurrence for property damage and bodily injury
Needs $300,000 aggregate for property damage and bodily injury
Needs $300,00 aggregate for products and completed operations
Class B HVAC Contractor License
Licensee can work on equipment to 25 tons of cooling and 1.5 million Btu of heating but Needs an endorsement for environmental air conditioning, commercial refrigeration and process cooling and heating.
Needs $100,000 per occurrence for property damage and bodily injury
Needs $100,000 aggregate for property damage and bodily injury
Needs $100,00 aggregate for products and completed operations
Fire Sprinkler Systems Contractor License
A fire sprinkler systems contractor in Texas needs a certificate of registration for his or her business.
The State Fire Marshall's Office issues three types of certificates
General,
Dwelling
Underground water supply piping
To get any of these licensed the applicant must have:
$100,000 insurance per occurrence with $300,000 total coverage
Authority to do business in Texas from the Texas Secretary of State or the County Clerk
A letter of good standing with the Texas Comptroller (franchise tax)
Plumber Trade License
Master Plumber License
Qualifying exam
Journeyman license in Texas for one (1) year
Journeyman Plumber Licence
Qualifying exam
Two (2) year apprenticeship
Electrician Trade Licenses
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation licenses these calssifications of electricians:
Electrical Contractor License (Business license)
Needs to be licensed master electrician or employ one in the company
Proof of financial responsibility
Workers compensation coverage
Electrical Sign Contractor (Business license)
Needs to be a licensed master sign electrician or employ one in the company
Needs to be a residential appliance installer or employ one in the company
Needs to maintain business liability insurance

Master Electrician
Must have 12,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a licensed master electrician
Must pass the master electrician examination
Master Sign Electrician
Must have 12,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a licensed master sign electrician

Journeyman Electrician
Must have 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under supervision of a master electrician
Must pass the journeyman electrician examination
Journeyman Sign Electrician
Must have 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a master sign electrician]

Residential Wireman
Must have 4,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a master electrician or residential wireman
Must pass the residential wireman examination
Maintenance Electrician
Must have 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a master electrician or a maintenance electrician
Must pass the maintenance electrician examination
Residential Appliance Installer
Must be at least 16 years old
Must pass the residential appliance installer examination
Electrical Apprentice
Must be at least 16 years old
Must already be assisting in installation of electrical work under the supervision of a master electrician
Well Drilling/Pump Installation Contractor License
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation issues these licenses:

Monitor Well
Closed Loop Geothermal Well
Master Driller License
Pump Installer Licenses

Hand Pump and Pump Jacks
Single Phase
Three Phase

Master Pipe Trade License
The master license lets you work on all the other four types of pump installations.
Requirements:
At least two years of well drilling or pump installation work experience
Letters of reference on your competence from four persons who have been licensed as drillers or pump installers in Texas for at least two (2) years
A letter of reference from your banker
Letters of reference from two satisfied customers
Pass an exam in well drilling and/or pump installation
Consumers are advised to check for additional local municipal contractor license requirements as contractor laws can differ from county to county. It is also advised to double check with the state's requirements before hiring a contractor.
