We currently have a drop in kitchen sink that I would like to replace with an undermount sink. Is this possible? We have a laminate countertop that I will not be replacing. How do I know if this will work, look ok, and be functional?
This is not possible even if you could somehow pull it off.
Laminate countertops are made with particle board and will swell if water comes into contact with it. If you want an affordable countertop you could go with tile.
But if you want an under mount sink your choices are corian (which would be one piece), granite, or terrazzo and/or recycled glass countertops.
Depending on where you live you could go with Vetrazzo or ice tops on the west coast. Atlas Tile and Terrazzo or Paladin Tile and Terrazzo on the east coast.
These new terrazzo, recycled glass counters are all the rage and shown on all the DIY network shows. They don't even show granite much any more. And when they do it's always down played.
